Who is church in rvb

In Chapter 11, he finally reveals to Washington that he is a ghost he had been forced to go back into Caboose's mind earlier on while Simmons was distracting Wash. In Chapter 16 of Reconstruction, it is revealed he is the Alpha AI, a secret even he didn't know about. He refuses to believe this, pointing out to Wash he still believes himself to be 'a motherfuckin' ghost'.

At the end of chapter 19, it is revealed that he was modeled and named after the Head of Project Freelancer, and was caught in an EMP blast meant to wipe out all of the AIs present.

However, in chapter 14 of Recreation Caboose installed Epsilon into a monitor and Epsilon used the memories it had of Church to recreate him in the form of Epsilon Church. Many of Church's kills are the result of the time loop. He also tried to kill Donut and Caboose with his sniper rifle many times but he would often miss.

He killed his captain Butch Flowers and he nearly killed Tucker with a rocket launcher. And he indirectly killed himself by messing with Sheila's programming. From the outset, Rooster Teeth establishes that Church is often angry. During season 1, Rooster Teeth made a conscious decision to reduce vulgarity in Red vs. However, response to this change was worse, [4] and Leonard's excessive vulgarity was Rooster Teeth's response to criticism that they had eliminated too much foul language.

Church is emotionally and socially distant from the rest of the Blues, with the exception of Tex. Church apparently still loves her, though he is loath to admit it when both Tucker and Gary accuse him of such. In Season 3, he apologized to her for not being a better man. He often expresses contempt for both Caboose and especially Tucker, but was also quite concerned when Tucker was injured in Season 2, and fell ill in Season 5.

He also expressed great sorrow when Caboose was killed by Wyoming in Episode 98; Burnie Burns explains this as genuine sadness, although Matt Hullum notes it may be because Church never killed Caboose himself. One of Church's most telling characteristics is how he can take command of whatever group he's in. However, as pointed out before Church is the same rank as the rest of his team with the exception of Tex who is a freelancer , something that Tucker makes a point of reminding him.

Also at the end of season three of the Blood Gulch Chronicles Church he managed to get every one in Blood Gulch to agree to work together. Church often wields a sniper rifle, but mainly for observation purposes, since he is a very poor shot, a fact which has been demonstrated on numerous occasions. He has had only 2 successful shots during the span of the series with the rifle: The first was shooting Wyoming in the crotch in Episode 98, much to his surprise and delight; however, technically this shot didn't happen due to a time-loop caused by Wyoming; the other time, the bullet ricocheted off several structures, miraculously wounding the Meta.

He was also able to shoot off Caboose's pinky toe from a distance with a pistol. Church's ability to aim deserves a special note, as it is possibly a hint at the true inner workings of his mind. Frequently, Church is a terrible shot, with no real excuse for his lack of skill, save for lack of practice In episode 74 of Blood Gulch Chronicles he claims that someone must be fucking with the sights while he isn't looking.

He has missed Caboose on numerous occasions, and Donut during the time-loops, even when they were standing perfectly still, and only a relatively short distance away. While some fans may believe that he hasn't shot Caboose because he liked him, they forget that every Valentine's Day Church would try killing Caboose by ripping his heart out see " You Had Me at Halo ".

He also failed to hit a Freelancer Project guard with multiple pistol shots at close range during his and Washington 's infiltration of the Freelancer command in Reconstruction In contrast, Church has been able to make a few incredible shots, the most noteworthy being his missile assault on the Meta.

Despite targeting an incredibly agile foe as proven by Wash's duel in the Zanzibar power plant and taking only a moment to aim, Church's shot not only was dead on, but it was clearly a perfectly centered head shot. Proof, perhaps, that when the situation calls for it, Church can rise to the occasion.

In the Old Annoyance Be Forgot special he proves capable of hitting three tiny Christmas baubles hanging on the Reds' tree from a considerable distance away.

Sheila : Would you like me to run the tutorial program? Church 2 : Sheila, what're you talking about? Forget what I just said. Sheila : This tutorial program is intended to instruct non-certified personnel. Let's begin with some driving. Church 2 : [left behind] Wait! Oh my God, no! Sheila : I was built by an American automotive company, and I was assembled in Mexico. Church 2 : [chasing on foot] No no no no no no no no no no n Tucker : Church, it hasn't been the best holiday, but I think I found the perfect gift for you.

Merry Christmas buddy. Church : I thought we agreed not to get each other anything this year. Tucker : No we didn't. Church : Oh. Well, maybe I'm mistaken. Tucker : Mistaken? You specifically told me to get you something. Church : I did? Tucker : You gave me a catalogue with stuff circled in it.

Church : Huh, doesn't ring a bell. Tucker : You set a budget for us, between and Church : Oh well, I guess its just one of those things. Tucker : Fuck you, I'm keeping it. Church : Tucker, isn't Christmas the season of giving Holy shit blue Santa. Tucker : Where? When he looks back for Church he is gone, along with the present]. Tucker : Aww crap. Title card reads "Discussing Politics: Real Life"].

Church : [calmly, but assertively] Look, that's just how I feel about it. Sarge : Well, I disagree, but I respect your opinion. Church : [shouts] You deserve to die! Die and go to hell and burn! Sarge : [shouts] Well, I hope you get raped? Then maybe you'll feel differently?

That's how it works! Simmons : I voted for Nader; I hate everyone! Donut : Politics gets me sooo horny! Check out my webcam pics at PresidentialSluts. Tucker : [Tucker meets his "baby" for the first time] Uh, what do I do? Church : Why are you asking me? Tucker : I don't know how to be a dad! This isn't the way I planned it.

Tucker, I had no idea Tucker : No, no, I mean I always wanted to have that ideal father-son relationship. You know, where I see him for, like, 8 hours every other week and send checks to someone that I hate. Caboose : It's emotional conversations like this that make me miss my mom.

Church : All right, look, let's leave these two alone. Let 'em do a little bonding. Tucker : Hey, don't leave me here with him! What am I supposed to say? Caboose : Ask him if he likes baseball! Church : It's an alien baby, Caboose. Caboose : Ask him if he likes T-ball! Tucker : Seriously, don't go. I don't even know where to start! Church : Tucker, he's part of an alien race whose only purpose seems to be to tell huge, grandiose lies to people so that they can seduce them and then impregnate them!

Y'know, common ground. Tucker : Yeah, I think I'll just stick to baseball. Caboose : Tell him about how his dad got to third base with you! Grif : Hey, you're back! How'd the Humpday thing go? Simmons : Umm Church : Oh, it went great, as long as you weren't on our team. Grif : So you lost. Church : Yeah, unless there's some new game type where you're supposed to catch the most amount of bullets with your torso.

In which case, Simmons was the clear victor. Frank DuFresne : Church, everything's fine. Basically, he's just resting. Church : Doesn't sound like he's resting. Frank DuFresne : That's not Tucker; that's our new arrival! He got a lot of energy since his first feeding. Church : Tucker Frank DuFresne : Actually, Caboose was kind enough to donate some blood.

You know what they say: it takes a village. Church : How'd you get him to agree to that? Frank DuFresne : It's amazing what Caboose will do if you promise him a cookie and a glass of orange juice. Church : But he hates needles! Frank DuFresne : No needles! It turns out if you just expose some bare skin, the little guy just digs right in!

It's like a miracle to see nature at work! Church : Uhm Frank DuFresne : Tucker's kid drank half a gallon in one go. Isn't that cool? I think he's gonna be a linebacker. Or a vampire. Or a vampire linebacker! That'll be crazy! Frank DuFresne : Anyway, blood is pretty important. So Caboose is bound to have some side effects like dizziness or nausea or sensitivity to light Caboose : I think I'm going to stop standing up now.

Frank DuFresne : Or passing out. Caboose : Church, if I die, I want you to have my orange juice Caboose's Church : Attention Reds! The great Caboose demands an audience with you, so listen up ya blowjobbing cocksuckers! Simmons : Caboose? Oh no, he's come to kill us! Grif : [he is wearing yellow] Will someone please help me? I don't wanna die. Lady Donut : I love Caboose and yet I'm still afraid of him. Sarge : [in a pirate voice] Arrgh. I be havin' a southern accent.

Lady Donut : He's so scary. Caboose : Fear not, Reds. I come here not to destroy, but instead to ask for your assistance on this day. Church : Okay woah woah woah woah woah. I gotta correct a couple things I'm hearing. Church : First of all, you? You're not Caboose's best friend.

You don't have a best friend. You know why? You don't need one! You're Church! Knowing other people just waters down the experience! Live the dream, buddy! Caboose's Church : Shove it, dick-sniffer! At the end of Reconstruction , it is the only Freelancer A. Throughout Recreation , Caboose eventually inserts Epsilon's consciousness into a new host a Forerunner Monitor , and it assumes the identity of Leonard Church.

It has also been shown to house the memories of the other A. Epsilon spends Season 9 inside the Memory Unit, searching for Tex before he decides to "forget" her once and for all. When he is rescued from the Unit, he unwillingly teams up with Carolina to take down the Director.

While at first the two don't get along, they bond over the course of Season 10, and eventually leave the Reds and Blues behind on Chorus to hunt down some space pirates Carolina caught wind of. Upon learning of Control's malicious intent and the "third party" in the Chorus Civil War , the two infiltrate the Space Pirates' ranks to regroup with the Reds and Blues in Season At first, Tucker is enraged at Epsilon for leaving them behind, but the two apologize and forgive each other by the end of the season.

Throughout Season 13, Epsilon is noticeably growing weaker, and is unable to do anything to help Carolina in Episode Onboard the Staff of Charon in the Season 13 finale, Epsilon sacrifices himself to allow Tucker to operate Maine's armor and have a fighting chance against Charon's last stand. Example of: Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy. Community Showcase More. Even at Point-Blank, Church cannot hit anything. Follow TV Tropes.

You need to login to do this. Get Known if you don't have an account. Blue - Leonard L. Red vs. Church , Lavernius Tucker , Michael J. I like to think I walk that line every day of my life. In General. While there's obvious examples like Epsilon's Heroic Sacrifice at the end of Season 13 that show how much he cares about them, there's also lots of subtler examples, such as him calling their mortal enemy O'Malley during Season 4 to take care of Tucker when the latter is incapacitated, offering to give Caboose The Talk later on in the aforementioned season along with debugging his "pet" Freckles in Season 12, and defending Donut when Sarge makes a Dude, Not Funny!

Acquired Situational Narcissism : While Church is already plenty egotistical, on the rare occasions something manages to validate his high opinion of himself, expect his ego to become even more insufferable.

Is a Crapshoot : A literal example: No matter the form, Church just plain can't hit a thing with that sniper rifle of his. He constantly pursues her no matter what she wants and refuses to let her go, being extremely demanding and warning her at his side at all times without ever considering her wants. Church is guilt-ridden when he realizes this, but he starts developing this with the Reds and Blues in Season 10, once again constantly demanding they help him with no regard for their well-being or wants.

He only realizes this after he drives them away. Alternate Self : Alpha and subsequently all the fragments, but especially Epsilon , was based on the Director's brain and reproduced from it i.

Always Save the Girl : He's willing to risk everything to save Tex. Deconstructed in Season 9 when Epsilon-Tucker makes him realize just how unhealthy and self-serving his obsession with her actually is. Ambiguous Disorder : Thanks in large part to the brutal psychological torture he suffered through, Church frequently showcases depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and other symptoms of PTSD.

And, of course, there's the fact that he has multiple Literal Split Personalities thanks to his torture as the Alpha A. Ambiguously Jewish : invoked In Season 14, grave markers of his deceased incarnations all feature a Star of David. Epsilon identifies as Church and makes references to the Alpha's time in Blood Gulch as if he experienced it, but he still refers to the Alpha as though he were a separate person and has several slight personality differences from Alpha, though all of them can be explained through Character Development or his memory loss.

But he also has bits of the modern variety, as he is a huge Jerkass. Bad Boss : Church, despite frequently saying how the rest of the Blood Gulch Crew are his friends, tends to be a pretty terrible manager and leader the vast majority of the time.

He also actively denies any romantic feelings towards Tex, showing he dislikes people being able to read him. Despite this, Church shows a level of compassion and care for his teammates, most notably towards Tex.

He is friendly with Tucker, and shows concern for his well-being, as shown when he called Tucker aside before he left on his "Quest". Because of his logical reasoning, Church holds great leadership and proved to be a selfless individual when he stayed and helped Washington face the Meta at Command , not knowing if he would live or die when the EMP would go off. While Church was a very volatile character, he was at heart, a very caring person.

From the outset, Rooster Teeth establishes that Church is often angry. To emphasize this trait, Caboose , for whom Rooster Teeth did not have a plan originally, was basically "a catalyst for getting Church pissed off.

During season 1, Rooster Teeth made a conscious decision to reduce vulgarity in Red vs. Blue , partly inspired by Homestar Runner [7] and partly in response to requests to make the videos safe for work. However, response to this change was worse, [3] and Leonard's excessive vulgarity was Rooster Teeth's response to criticism that they had eliminated too much foul language. Church often wields a sniper rifle , but mainly for observation purposes, since he is a very poor shot, a fact which has been demonstrated on numerous occasions.

He has had only 2 successful shots during the span of the series with the rifle: The first was shooting Wyoming in the crotch in Episode 98 , much to his surprise and joy; however, technically this shot didn't happen due to a time-loop caused by Wyoming; the other time, the bullet ricocheted off several structures, miraculously wounding the Meta.

He was also able to shoot off Caboose's pinky toe from a distance with a magnum. Frequently, Church is a terrible shot, with no real excuse for him lacking skill, save for him lacking practice. It has been stated that due to Church being fragmented, he lost that specific part of him that possessed his skill, needed to be a good shot. Church's accuracy with weapons tends to fluctuate from having exceptional skill to having none at all.

He failed to hit a Freelancer Project guard with multiple pistol shots at close range during his and Washington 's infiltration of the Freelancer command in Reconstruction: Chapter In contrast, Church has been able to make a few amazing shots, the most noteworthy being his missile assault on the Meta in Reconstruction: Chapter 6.

Despite targeting an immensely agile foe and taking only a moment to aim, Church's shot not only was dead on, but it was clearly a perfectly centered headshot. In the Old Annoyance Be Forgot special he proves capable of hitting three tiny Christmas baubles hanging on the Reds' tree from a considerable distance away. Also, in the Fight, Fight! Being dead has sparked a number of developments in Church's character.

At first, it only added to Church's irate personality. Though his abilities as a ghost have proven useful, as Church has no intention of remaining a ghost and merely focuses on maintaining his possession of his new robot body.

Due to his long possession of his body, Church seems to forget that he's dead sometimes, often expressing acts of fear or self-preservation in dangerous situations as though he still had a life to lose. In Season 3, Church finally forgave Sheila for killing him, as he accidentally caused it by turning Sheila's Friendly Fire Protocol off, but becomes annoyed again when she apologizes for enjoying it so much. Despite being a private, a major characteristic of Church is that he's been shown to be a great leader.

For example: despite Tucker being higher in rank, Church commonly leads the Blues and has also led the Reds and Blues against O'Malley's final assault. This is also shown in Reconstruction , where he seemingly takes second-in-command under Washington when the teams were pitted against the Meta. It can be assumed that he obtained this trait from the Director, as he leads an advanced military program.

According to Tucker in Reconciliation , Church's leadership was him " taking the blame when shit went wrong. Church isn't only one of smartest Blood Gulch troopers, but he also has great deal of logical reasoning. Because of this, he has defeated several enemies and even saved the teams from the bomb detonating in Episode His logic is most likely due to the fact that he is the Alpha A. Due to being an A. After "dying", Church first demonstrated this ability by possessing Sarge in order to rescue Tex.

He has since used this ability to learn vital info, sneak into bases, and even go against Omega in Caboose's mind. Being the Alpha, Church has shown to be much more skilled in possession than other A.

All Church's kills are the result of the time loop. He accidentally killed his captain, Butch Flowers , while trying to save him from a "heart attack". However, he was able to kill Wyoming in an alternate timeline with his sniper rifle and possibly some of his clones before the Reds came to save the Blues.

In Episode 10 , shown here, Church first appears as a ghost. This effect required additional filming by Rooster Teeth. In the commentary for Season 1 DVD , Burns recalls that he decided to have Church killed in episode 8 because he thought that having a dead character return as a ghost can be interesting. The video from the two takes was then dissolved together.

However, this process caused other characters in the scene to appear transparent as well. To correct this, they had to be edited back in as fully opaque at the end. As it was nearly impossible to return to the exact camera position, this required the entire scene to be filmed twice more.

Another complication was that dissolution worked badly against certain backgrounds. When Burns decided to have Church possess other characters as a ghost, he debated whether he should attempt to sound like the character, or have the other character's voice actor attempt to sound like Church. When the possession occurs in Episode 14, he found that having Hullum tweak his Southern accent normally used for Sarge was too complicated and thus attempted to sound like Sarge during the possession.

Other Rooster Teeth personnel have commented that some sound effects that Burns made while voicing Church were noticeably exaggerated.

In commenting on Episode 6, Geoff Ramsey , who voices the character Grif , noted the heavy breathing that Church makes while running. Red vs. Blue Wiki Explore. Why Are We Here?
